You can enroll for the Financial Literacy for High School students program. The program will cover the following topics:

  • Basics of money and finance
  • Inflation and purchasing power
  • Loan calculations (using college loans as an example)
  • Budgeting, savings and investing
  • Corporate structure and stocks and bonds
  • Insurance
  • Diversification and risk-return
  • Mutual funds/ETFs, etc.

The program will use Google Sheets to illustrate the calculations, so everyone should have a gmail account (Google Sheets is free with a gmail account, but you can also use MS Excel if you already have paid for it). These skills will be useful throughout your life!

There are two options for registering for the class (click on the Pay Now button).

Option 1: Virtual, asynchronous class, with several hours of pre-recorded lecture videos that contain in-depth explanations of all the concepts, several solved examples, and homework problems with the solutions provided later on.

One hour class once a week for the duration of the course, via Google Meet, where the students can get all their questions answered! Class size under option 2 will be restricted to around 20 students, to ensure that all the students get personalized attention.

Scholarships:

A limited amount of scholarships are available for students from low income families who are eligible for reduced price lunch or free lunch at their school. If you want to apply for the scholarships, you should ask your high school counselor to send an email from their official school email account to nc fin lit at gmail.com (remove all spaces and replace at with @). The email should include your full name, the name/address of your high school, and state that based on your family income, you are eligible for reduced price lunch or free lunch at the school during YYYY-YYYY (state the duration for which you are eligible for reduced price lunch at your school).
